The story is already in motion – here’s everything you need to tell it.
In a 2032 model for a hypothetical 100 MW data center near San Jose, California, wave energy helped meet hourly demand with clean power 95% of the year. The optimized portfolio with wave required just 386 MW of installed generation capacity, compared with 628 MW without wave — a 39% reduction. Modelled levelized cost of electricity fell from $114.5/MWh to $84.6/MWh, a 26% saving, while battery energy storage capacity dropped from 158.3 GWh to just 14.6 GWh. The difference came down to when the power arrived.
Wave energy represents the critical missing piece for achieving true 24/7 carbon-free electricity. Discover how this untapped resource delivers superior energy density and complements existing renewables, creating a balanced and reliable power system that meets the demands of tomorrow’s energy landscape.
