Wave power.
To power the planet.

We’re on a mission to power the planet with clean energy from ocean waves.

The ocean’s power unlocked – 1.8TW of clean energy.

One of the world’s largest untapped sources of energy has been unlocked and is ready to be harvested along our coastlines at utility scale where most people live and businesses operate. It offers a unique pathway to achieve near-100% firm renewable energy at the lowest possible cost.

The missing piece was always here.

Ocean waves rarely rest, producing energy around the clock, across seasons. When wind subsides and clouds roll in, waves keep delivering steady, predictable power — making wave power the ideal complement in a balanced, clean firm energy mix.
Studies show that integrating wave energy into the energy mix can reduce both overcapacity and overgeneration by half, while significantly decreasing the need for energy storage.

This isn’t a future vision. CorPower Ocean is already generating power today – delivering steady output from the Atlantic. By meeting local demand with local energy, wave power enhances national energy security, boosts resilience, and reduces reliance on fossil fuels.

From the human heart to wave power.

Our breakthrough realization was that the pumping principle of the human heart could revolutionize how we capture wave energy. Just as the heart stores and releases energy to create a continuous, reliable flow, our system uses air pressure to return the buoy to its neutral position between waves. This approach not only allows us to use a light-weight buoy, it enables real magic to happen when combined with a negative spring function called WaveSpring.

Thanks to this patented technology, we can adapt how the buoy reacts to the conditions. This makes it possible to optimize the power capture – boosting energy yield by five times (per amount of equipment) compared to conventional solutions. The buoy has proven reliability in the harshest Atlantic conditions withstanding 18.5 metre storm waves.

HiWave-5: The wave energy breakthrough

World’s first 10MW wave farm

FAQ

Our FAQ section covers the most common topics about wave energy, technology, deployment, and commercial readiness – giving you quick, clear answers to help you dive deeper with confidence.

Wave energy provides what other renewables can’t: consistency and predictability. Unlike wind and solar which require massive overbuilding and expensive storage, wave energy keeps producing when the sun sets and wind calms. Data shows wave energy can reduce overall system costs by up to 30% in balanced renewable portfolios while maintaining constant power output – as demonstrated in our Spanish data centre case study were adding just 54MW of wave capacity eliminated the need for 301MW of wind overbuilding and saved €15 million annually.

Three critical innovations set us apart: First, our heart-inspired phase control technology works with ocean forces rather than fighting them, multiplying energy capture fivefold. Second, our adaptive tuning system ensures both maximum efficiency during normal conditions and survivability during storms – solving the durability challenge that hampered earlier attempts. Third, our modular approach enables industrial-scale manufacturing deployment, not only driving rapid cost reduction but ensuring accessibility to all coastal nations with suitable wave energy resources, boosting energy equality. These advantages have been validated from concept through commercial-scale deployment in real Atlantic Ocean conditions.

Our utility-scale technology is operational now in the Atlantic Ocean off northern Portugal, successfully delivering electricity to the grid while withstanding storms with waves up to 18 metres. Independent verification confirms performance metrics in actual operating environments, with results matching our projected outputs and durability claims. This isn’t a prototype – it’s commercially ready technology generating power today.

Our WEC operates on principles inspired by the human heart’s pumping efficiency, using a pre-tension system that pulls the buoy downward while the wave’s upward force pushes it up. Stored pneumatic pressure provides restoring force that drives energy capture in both directions – creating a lightweight system that’s naturally “transparent” during storms unless actively controlled.

Unlike conventional systems where buoys passively follow wave motion, our advanced phase control technology precisely times oscillations with each wave, dramatically amplifying energy capture. This approach has been validated through extensive testing in both controlled environments and open ocean conditions, consistently demonstrating unmatched performance and reliability. Our technology delivers more than five times as much electricity per tonne of equipment, compared to the previous state-of-the-art in wave energy.

Our phase control technology enables remote tuning and detuning, intelligently adapting to ocean conditions. In operational mode, the system amplifies motion to maximize energy capture. During storms, it automatically shifts to a detuned state making the WEC transparent to large waves – similar to wind turbines pitching  blades for protection.

This is the system’s natural state, ensuring storm protection even if power or grid connection is lost. This capability has been proven through continuous operation during Atlantic storms with waves reaching 18 meters, demonstrating unprecedented resilience without damage or performance degradation.

Our technology is designed for complete autonomous operation. The system continuously monitors ocean conditions, uses AI-based wave prediction algorithms, and self-adjusts for optimal performance without human intervention. Comprehensive remote monitoring provides real-time insights into all operational parameters, allowing for proactive maintenance planning while minimizing day-to-day oversight requirements.

CorPower Ocean is actively implementing commercial wave energy systems with customers in multiple markets. Our manufacturing infrastructure is established and scaling to meet growing demand, with committed projects advancing in Portugal, Scotland, and other key markets. Leading utilities and energy companies including EDP, ESB, and Total Energies have partnered with CorPower Ocean to deploy commercial wave energy solutions – recognizing the critical role wave energy plays in achieving 24/7 carbon-free energy goals.

CorPack clusters serve as modular building blocks which can be arranged to form wave farms from megawatt to gigawatt scale. They can function as standalone wave farms or integrate with offshore wind to share electrical infrastructure, enhancing the value of both technologies.

Our approach uses high-density clustering of many identical, small-scale units rather than large individual devices. Like battery or solar PV architecture, this modularity enables volume manufacturing and accelerates cost reduction compared to systems relying on large, custom components. The standardized electrical output integrates seamlessly with existing grid infrastructure, requiring no specialized connection equipment.

Environmental monitoring confirms minimal ecological impact from our installations. The devices operate silently, partially submerged, with limited visual impact from shore. Extensive monitoring shows no adverse impacts on marine life, with some evidence suggesting the structures may provide beneficial habitat features. Our designs prioritize full site restoration after the system lifecycle, ensuring no permanent environmental footprint.

Environmental monitoring is conducted across project phases using a proportionate, risk-based, and adaptive approach, with more intensive monitoring during early deployment and reduced requirements over time where impacts are shown to be negligible.”

For utilities facing the intermittency challenge, wave energy delivers three critical advantages: First, it provides consistent, predictable power that reduces balancing costs and strengthens grid resilience. Second, it complements existing wind and solar investments, filling production gaps to maximize return on all renewable assets. Third, it reduces the need for expensive storage and backup generation, lowering overall system costs while improving reliability. Our Spanish data centre case study demonstrates how integrating just 54MW of wave energy eliminated the need for 301MW of wind overbuilding and saved €15 million annually.
Three key factors establish our technology as a secure investment: First, proven performance in real Atlantic Ocean conditions with verified survivability in extreme storms. Second, independently validated efficiency and durability confirming our performance claims. Third, established manufacturing and supply chains that enable immediate scaling without supply constraints. Leading energy companies including ESB and Total Energies have shown clear interest supporting a path to commercial deployment – providing the proof that wave energy has moved beyond the risk stage to commercial readiness.
The development phase of a project covers 2-3 years to get to final investment decision. From that point to operational status, a CorPack array can typically be deployed within 24 months. Our standardized components and streamlined installation methods eliminate specialized requirements like custom port infrastructure or vessels that often delay renewable deployments. Projects can be phased to begin generating revenue while expanding capacity, further improving investment returns.
Wave energy strengthens the entire renewable ecosystem by filling critical production gaps when sun and wind availability drops. This complementary generation profile enhances the value of all renewable investments by creating a more stable system overall. Even with a potentially higher LCOE (Levelised Cost Of Energy) than some alternatives, wave energy captures premium value by producing during high-demand, low-supply periods – making it an economic asset within balanced renewable portfolios.

Most people are surprised by three aspects of wave energy.

  • First, its predictability – waves can be forecast with remarkable accuracy several days in advance, as they are driven by large-scale weather systems and propagate as long-traveling swells.
  • Second, its high energy density – due to the much higher density of water compared to air, ocean waves carry roughly 800 times more energy per unit volume than wind at comparable speeds.
  • Third, its persistence – waves continue generating power hours or even days after the winds that created them have subsided, providing a natural smoothing and storage effect that enhances grid stability.

Energy systems are entering a new reality where security, resilience, and reliability have become as critical as decarbonisation. Geopolitical uncertainty, volatile fuel markets, and increasing exposure to extreme weather have exposed the vulnerabilities of energy systems reliant on imported fuels and highly intermittent generation.

At the same time, electrification, AI, and data centres are driving electricity demand to unprecedented levels, increasing the need for predictable, consistent power to maintain grid stability. Ocean waves naturally provide this consistency, delivering power when wind and solar cannot, without reliance on imported fuels, large-scale storage, or fossil backup. This reduces overall system costs while strengthening energy independence and resilience.

As governments and companies pursue 24/7 carbon-free energy alongside energy security objectives, wave power addresses both challenges simultaneously. It complements the energy transition while responding directly to today’s geopolitical and system-level risks—creating a timely opportunity for early adopters to strengthen their energy systems and lead the next phase of clean, resilient power.
