National Geographic has reported on CorPower Ocean’s involvement in the landmark European project EU-SCORES.
The €45million initiative will see the creation of hybrid marine energy parks off the Northern Portugal coast to develop a more resilient and stable national energy system.
Installed off Aguçadoura, in Póvoa do Varzim, CorPower’s pioneering wave energy technology will also crucially be used to demonstrate innovative hybrid concepts that could leverage the offshore renewable industry more broadly across Europe.
Researchers from leading Portuguese institutions – INESC TEC, EDP and WavEc – will assess the 1.2 MW wave energy park collecting relevant scientific data for analysis, given the proximity to the WindFloat Atlantic offshore wind farm.
Within the scope of the project, a hub will be installed to enable the possibility of connecting a 10MW wave energy park, taking advantage of the existing underwater infrastructure.
The EU SCORES Project will involve a second hybrid offshore park in Belgium assessing the compatibility of floating solar and offshore wind.
